The doubles final at the 32nd Invest In Szczecin Open delivered plenty of drama before Denys Molchanov and David Pichler emerged as champions, defeating Ivan Liutarevich and Bruno Pujol Navarro 6–3, 6–7(1), 10–6.

Both teams were relatively new pairings. Liutarevich and Pujol Navarro teamed up for the first time in Szczecin, entering the ATP Challenger Tour 125 event together at the last minute. For Molchanov and Pichler, this was only their second tournament together – they had previously reached the semifinals at the Helsinki Challenger last November. In Poland, they avenged that loss by defeating Theo Arribage, who had stopped them in Finland, in the quarterfinals.

Neither team had dropped a set en route to the final. In the opening set, Liutarevich and Pujol Navarro served superbly and made very few errors to take it 6–3. The second set went to a tiebreak, which Molchanov and Pichler played almost flawlessly. In the decisive super tiebreak, the Ukrainian-Austrian duo got off to a strong start, built an early lead and never looked back, sealing the championship of the 32nd edition of the tournament.

Pichler praised the quality of their opponents after the match: “They played really well, especially in the first set, but they kept up a high level throughout the match. We managed to find solutions at key moments and were a bit lucky to win both tiebreaks. Still, we’ve had a great week and we fully deserved this victory,” he said.

For Molchanov, this marks a milestone 40th ATP Challenger title, yet the Ukrainian was full of appreciation for the tournament organizers: “Szczecin is a very pleasant city and we feel great here. You can see that everyone truly enjoys tennis and we felt it too. That’s why we always come here with great pleasure,” he added.
