ROTTERDAM, September 11, 2025 (Press Release)

The 52nd ABN AMRO Open was a record edition in many respects in 2025. Not only did a record number of visitors come to Rotterdam Ahoy, but the tournament also generated an unprecedented economic impact for the city of Rotterdam, amounting to €7.8 million. The social impact was equally significant: no less than 36% of visitors, inspired by Carlos Alcaraz, the wheelchair tennis players and their peers, plan to become more physically active.

Tournament Director Richard Krajicek“One of the goals of the ABN AMRO Open is to bring people together around top-level tennis and to encourage them to be physically active. The fact that 36% of our visitors want to exercise more, and that through our clinics we have reached hundreds of young people, including children from disadvantaged backgrounds and children with disabilities, I consider a major success of our efforts.”

Visitor Record

A total of 141,894 visitors attended the ABN AMRO Open, an increase of no less than 11% compared to the record set in 2024. Of these, 60,457 were business visitors who, in addition to the matches, visited the renowned VIP Village The Club. The remaining 81,437 were general public visitors, who enjoyed not only world-class tennis but also entertainment at Sports Plaza and Shops & Bites. They rated their visit an average of 8.6 out of 10.

The event attracts visitors from across the Netherlands and abroad. 94% of attendees came to Rotterdam specifically for the ABN AMRO Open. One in four said they would like to visit Rotterdam more often following their experience at the tournament.

Economic Impact

“The figures exceed our expectations. With the record number of visitors, we anticipated an increase in economic impact, but a 32% growth, from €5.9 to €7.8 million, is remarkable,” said Peter Blangé, director of Rotterdam Topsport, which commissioned the research together with Rotterdam Ahoy. “It once again highlights how sports events contribute tremendously to the city in many ways.”

Social Impact

In addition to its economic impact, the ABN AMRO Open also delivers a major social impact. Together with the Coalition Against Loneliness, 200 elderly people experiencing loneliness are invited to attend the tournament and take part in sports activities. Likewise, 600 primary school children from Rotterdam South are able to visit the tournament through the ABN AMRO Foundation, while 200 children with disabilities can practice various sports through the Esther Vergeer Foundation. “The power of sport is that it connects people, contributes to better mental well-being, and has a positive impact on society,” says Sander Bestevaar, Head of Partnerships, Events & Foundations at ABN AMRO. “The tennis and wheelchair tennis tournament, along with the various activities and clinics we organize during that week, gives us the opportunity to reach a wide range of target groups for whom sports are sometimes less accessible. Such as people with physical disabilities and children growing up in less advantaged environments.” Other visitors are also encouraged to follow and practice more sports. 70% have become more enthusiastic about sports, and 36% intend to be more physically active themselves.
