TODI/STARNBERG, August 17, 2025
Timofey Skatov is the new champion of the Internazionali di Tennis Città di Todi | CERgo Tennis Cup. In front of a packed crowd on Center Court at Tennis Club Todi 1971, the Kazakh battled past sixth seed Stefano Travaglia 7-6(4), 0-6, 6-2 after two hours and 44 minutes, becoming the 17th player to lift the singles trophy in the event’s history.
The 23-year-old leaves the Italian region of Umbria with his third career ATP Challenger Tour title and his second organized by MEF Tennis Events, following his triumph in Parma in 2022. With the victory, he will return to the Top 200 on Monday at World No. 193 in the ATP Rankings.

“It’s been an incredible week,” Skatov said. “Every match lasted over two hours and I had to give everything to win. Stefano played a great match – in the second set I dropped a little physically and mentally, and he took advantage. But I managed to react well in the third, and I’m really satisfied.”
After a long stretch of disappointing results, the former World No. 123 feels back on track: “Right now, I’m not thinking too much about the ranking. I want to enjoy this win, take some rest, then I’ll play one more clay-court event in Porto. In September, it will be hard courts in Cassis before Davis Cup. I just need to keep fighting in every match, and the ranking will follow.”
For Travaglia, who reached his 11th Challenger final, the run still brings positives. The Italian will rise to World No. 211ahead of the US Open qualifying.
In doubles, Italy’s Filippo Romano and Jacopo Vasamì claimed their first Challenger team title, defeating third seeds Daniel Cukierman from Israel and Johannes Ingildsen of Denmark 6-4, 6-3.
Marchesini: “The fans rewarded us”
Tournament director Marcello Marchesini praised the atmosphere and support in Todi: “We are extremely happy with the response from the public. It’s a great reward for all the efforts of MEF Tennis Events, Tennis Club Todi 1971, and the local administration.”
This year’s edition stood out for the presence of young talent. The main draw featured three former junior World No. 1s – Skatov, Juan Carlos Prado Angelo, and Nicolai Budkov Kjaer. Marchesini also highlighted the wild cards granted by the Italian Tennis Federation to rising stars Jacopo Vasamì, Lorenzo Carboni, and Pierluigi Basile: “Italy is producing great talents, and they’re climbing the world rankings quickly. The future looks very bright.”
After staging events in Tenerife, Parma, Perugia, and now Todi, MEF Tennis Events is preparing for the next stop: the Challenger 125 in Olbia. “There’s a lot of anticipation,” Marchesini said. “The Tennis Club Terranova and the City of Olbia are investing heavily to meet ATP requirements. This year has shown great synergy between all the parties involved, and I’m sure Olbia will deliver another outstanding tournament.”
