It was a full day of action at the BRAWO Open 2025 ATP 125 Challenger Tour tournament, held at the BTHC grounds in Braunschweig’s Bürgerpark. On Tuesday, 17 main draw singles matches were played under partly sunny skies.

Yannick Hanfmann, currently ranked No. 138 and Germany’s No. 4 player, opened the day on the BRAWO Center Court. The 2018 Braunschweig champion faced France’s Clement Tabur and secured a solid 6-3, 6-4 victory. It was a stable performance from the 33-year-old Grand Slam player, who confidently considers himself one of the favorites for the 2025 title.

Looking ahead to the Round of 16

Later in the day, France’s Luka Pavlovic, ranked No. 224, pulled off an upset by defeating top seed and World No. 63 Tomas Martin Etcheverry with a convincing 6-4, 6-4 win. “I played really well today, and I believe I can still improve,” Pavlovic said after the match. “I’m very happy to have beaten a top player like Etcheverry. I’ve never played against my next opponent, Yannick Hanfmann, but I know he has a lot of quality and has already won the title here in Braunschweig. I’m looking forward to the Round of 16.”

Favorite tournament: Braunschweig

Also advancing to the Round of 16 is 17-year-old Diego Dedura, currently ranked No. 362. The powerful young German delivered a focused and aggressive performance in his opening match against Sweden’s Elias Ymer, ranked No. 255. With heavy topspin forehands, Dedura kept constant pressure on his opponent and claimed a well-deserved 6-3, 6-3 win. “Today was all about going out there and having fun — playing, running, feeling free. That’s exactly what I did, and I was able to play a solid match because of it. Braunschweig is my favorite tournament. It’s just perfect. I only have to travel an hour and a half from Berlin, and I simply love coming here,” Dedura said, clearly pleased.

Germany’s Tom Gentzsch, ranked No. 407, also progressed. The 21-year-old prevailed in an all-German battle against 24-year-old Rudolf Molleker, ranked No. 363, winning in three sets: 6-7, 6-2, 6-2. Christoph Negritu, ranked No. 288, joined them in the next round with a commanding 6-4, 6-2 win over Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro.

Defending Champion Advances

Last year’s BRAWO Open champion, Roberto Carballes Baena, also made it through. The World No. 70 from Spain faced a tough challenge from Argentina’s Alex Barrena, ranked No. 326. The two clay-court specialists battled for nearly two and a half hours in a physically demanding match. In the end, Carballes Baena emerged victorious.

“I’m really happy to be back here in Braunschweig. It was a tough match. The court was very slow because of the rain, but I always managed to find an answer in the key moments,” said the exhausted defending champion.
