Three former US Open champions have officially joined the player field for this year’s Mubadala Citi DC Open, a combined ATP/WTA 500 hard-court event, that takes place July 19-27 at Rock Creek Park in northwest Washington, D.C.

The trio includes Daniil Medvedev of Russia, Naomi Osaka of Japan and Emma Raducanu of Great Britain. They join an already talented line-up that boasts seven Top-10 players across both tours – including Americans Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys and Emma Navarro – five past DC Open champions, and many fan favorites that are coming to the nation’s capital city for the 56th edition of the tournament at William H.G. Fitzgerald Tennis Center.

“We are excited to add Daniil, Naomi and Emma to this year’s already extraordinarily strong Mubadala Citi DC Open player field,” said Mark Ein, Chairman of the Mubadala Citi DC Open, in a statement. “Having these three US Open champions, two of which were No. 1 in the world, brings even more fan favorites to Washington.

“With tickets almost sold out and our strongest player field ever, the 2025 tournament is shaping up to be the event of the summer in D.C.”

The World No. 11 Medvedev, who won the 2021 US Open title, finished runner-up six years ago to 2019 champion Nick Kyrgios of Australia. He said he’s looking forward to coming back to the DC Open.

“I’m looking forward to coming back to Washington and playing the tournament again,” Medvedev said in a statement. “I have great memories from 2019, when I reached the final, and I’ve had some strong results there. I really enjoy the city, and it’s a great place to compete during the summer.”

Meanwhile, Osaka, 27, a winner of two US Open and two Australian Open titles, is making her first trip since 2018 to compete in Washington. She has had mixed results on the WTA Tour since returning from maternity leave in January 2024.

“I’m really excited to be heading back to Washington to play the Mubadala Citi DC Open. It’s been seven years since I was last there, and I’ve heard great things from other players about how much the tournament has grown and evolved,” the 57th-ranked Osaka said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere and the DC crowd again. It should be a great week.”

The 22-year-old Raducanu, who is currently ranked 36th after winning the 2021 US Open as a qualifier, will be coming to Washington for the third time, after reaching the quarterfinals in 2022 and 2024. Earlier this season, she was a quarterfinalist in Miami and at Queen’s Club.

The ATP and WTA preliminary main draws will be released next week and are set to feature even more of the world’s top-ranked players. Among the other early ATP and WTA commitments are: World No. 7 Lorenzo Musetti of Italy, World No. 12 Alex de Minaur of Australia, World No. 13 Frances Tiafoe of the United States, World No. 14 Andrey Rublev of Russia, and three former DC Open men’s champions: Kei Nishikori (2015), Kyrgios (2019 and 2022) and Sebastian Korda of the United States (2024). Plus, defending women’s champion Paula Badosa of Spain is also entered.
