ROTTERDAM/STARNBERG, May 30, 2025
Carlos Alcaraz, four-time Grand Slam champion and current World No. 2, has confirmed his participation in the 2026 ABN AMRO Open, where he will return to defend the title he won in spectacular fashion earlier this year. The 53rd edition of the ATP 500 tournament will take place from February 7 to 15, 2026, at Rotterdam Ahoy.
Reflecting on his debut in the Netherlands, Alcaraz expressed his excitement about returning:
“My first visit to Rotterdam left me wanting more,” said the Spanish star. “Winning the title was obviously an important factor, but the atmosphere was excellent as well. The welcome I received from the fans makes me excited to come back. I am looking forward to defending my title at the ABN AMRO Open.”
Alcaraz made history in 2025 as the first Spanish player to win the prestigious tournament, succeeding where legends like Rafael Nadal and his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero had fallen short. With his dynamic and electrifying style of play, he quickly won over the Rotterdam crowd, who often rose to their feet during his matches.
After a challenging opening round against Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, Alcaraz found his rhythm on the indoor hard courts, defeating Vavassori, Martinez, and Hurkacz on his way to the final. In a high-octane showdown with Alex de Minaur, the Spaniard clinched the title with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory.
Tournament director Richard Krajicek praised the young star’s impact: “Despite his young age, Carlos Alcaraz is already a superstar. He made such a big impression on the fans this year, both on and off the court, that he was immediately at the top of our wish list,” said Krajicek. “The fact that the connection between the ABN AMRO Open and him is mutual is evident from the fact that he was also immediately excited about coming back.”
Alcaraz’s presence was instrumental in the event’s success in 2025, which saw a record-breaking attendance of nearly 142,000 visitors. Krajicek hopes his return will once again drive fan enthusiasm: “It would be fantastic if we could come close to those numbers again next year. Ticket sales started today, so we are curious about the first results.”
In addition to showcasing world-class tennis, the ABN AMRO Open offers fans a wide range of experiences ‘On Top of Tennis,’ including business networking, culinary events, fitness activities, and social initiatives.
