HAMBURG, May 18, 2025
The hope was always there – now it’s a reality: Alexander Zverev has arrived in Hamburg. On Saturday, just after 4 p.m., the World No. 2 stepped onto the grounds at the Rothenbaum Tennis Complex. Shortly after, the 28-year-old Hamburg native appeared at the press conference — relaxed, upbeat, and approachable, visibly excited for the Bitpanda Hamburg Open.
“It was a spontaneous decision to come to Hamburg,” Zverev revealed. “I spent a few days at home after the tournament in Rome to recharge a bit — then my team and the tournament had some intense discussions. By yesterday afternoon, it was clear: I’m playing in Hamburg.”
For Zverev, this isn’t just another stop on the tour — it’s personal. “Hamburg is my hometown. This is where I started playing tennis, where I received my first wildcard. It’s simply a very special place for me — and a place where I feel positive energy. That’s exactly what I need right now.”
Zverev recalled his deep emotional connection to the tournament, where he reached the semifinals at just 17, claimed his first title in 2023, and returned to the final in 2024. With 24 career titles, including this year’s BMW Open in Munich and a runner-up finish at the 2025 Australian Open, he is once again a top favorite at this year’s Hamburg Open.

Following the press conference, Zverev headed straight to the Centre Court for an intense evening training session. His first match is scheduled for Monday, where he’ll face a qualifier. “I’m here to win matches — but also to enjoy the atmosphere. The support from the fans at Rothenbaum means so much to me.”
Surrounded by his family, including his brother Mischa and their parents, Zverev emphasized the comforting presence of home. “All the kids are here, the dogs too — it just feels good. I can play tennis here and recharge a little at the same time. I hope it’s going to be a beautiful week.”
When asked about balancing his schedule with the upcoming French Open in Paris, Zverev answered with calm confidence: “If I reach the final here, those are exactly the emotions I want to take with me. Two days for preparation — that’s enough.”
