Danube Upper Austria Open Quarterfinals Are Set

The final two quarterfinalists have been confirmed at the Danube Upper Austria Open powered by SKE, as Cristian Garin and Alexander Blockx battled their way into the last eight at the ATP Challenger Tour 100 clay-court event in Mauthausen, Austria.

Chile’s Garin came from a set down to defeat Lithuania’s Vilius Gaubas in a hard-fought contest lasting over two hours, winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. In the last match of the day, Belgium’s Alexander Blockx outlasted Thiago Seyboth Wild of Brazil 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in another intense three-setter to round out the quarterfinal field.

Garin will next face Austria’s own Neil Oberleitner, while Blockx is set for a clash with Switzerland’s Jerome Kym. Marco Trungelliti of Argentina, No. 5 seed Tomas Barrios Vera from Chile, as well as Argentines Thiago Tirante and Roman Andres Burruchaga round out the final eight.

Austrians shine in doubles semifinals

Austrian players also made their mark in the doubles competition. Local favorite Nico Hipfl, teaming up with Jerome Kym, secured a spot in the semifinals by defeating compatriots Jurij Rodionov and David Pichler 7-5, 6-4.

Neil Oberleitner will have a busy Friday, as he competes in both singles and doubles. Alongside his Brazilian partner Marcelo Zormann, Oberleitner advanced to the doubles semifinals with an impressive 6-4, 7-6 victory over the top-seeded duo of Jakub Paul from Switzerland and Dutchman David Pel.
