TALLAHASSEE, April 24, 2016

The main draw of the $50,000 Tallahassee Tennis Challenger kicks off Monday with plenty of must-watch matches, including the all-US-American battle of Eric Quigley versus Noah Rubin during the day session. Meanwhile, Benjamin Lock of the FSU Men’s Tennis team headlines the first night session.

Former University of Kentucky standout Quigley will meet fellow US-American Rubin in the opening round of play. Quigley, who reached the NCAA Finals in 2012, returns to Tallahassee for the second time. 20-year-old Rubin, who won the 2014 junior Wimbledon title, is making his Tallahassee debut. He leads their head-to-head 1-0 after defeating Quigley in a tight three set battle in Charlottesville last year.

Ecuador’s number one player, Giovanni Lapentti, returns to Tallahassee for a fourth time. The brother of former Top 10 player Nicolas Lapentti has won 10 Challenger titles in his career. He will face off with No.8 seed Dennis Novikov, who won the doubles title here last year with Julio Peralta. The American has won two Challenger titles and has qualified for two ATP World Tour events this year. This is the pair’s first meeting at the Challenger level.

Top singles seed Donald Young teams up with South Africa’s Dean O’Brien to kick off the night session. They take on the Florida State University duo of Aziz Dougaz and Jose Gracia. Dougaz, who is a freshman at FSU, was the boy’s 18 African champion. Gracia, a redshirt sophomore, is a former Top 10 junior player in the nation and No.1 junior in Florida.

FSU’s number one player, Benjamin Lock, is back at the Tallahassee Tennis Challenger for the third time. The Zimbabwe native moved to the United States following a successful junior career, reaching No.1 in Africa’s 18 and under division. He will meet 20-year-old Daniil Medvedev, who is making his Tallahassee debut. The Russian has reached two Challenger semifinals in his career.
