Daniel Altmaier of Germany and Chilean Alejandro Tabilo will compete in the singles final of the $52,080 Puerto Vallarta Open hosted by the Parque Parota. Altmaier, second favourite of the award-winning ATP Challenger 80 hard-court tournament in Mexico, defeated No. 5 seed Michael Mmoh from the United States 6-4, 6-2 in the stage of the last four on Saturday.
The 23-year-old Kempen native saved all four break points he faced and capitalized on three of his own eight break-point chances to secure victory in one hour and 43 minutes.
In the top half of the draw, No. 3 seed Tabilo edged past Yosuke Watanuki of Japan 6-3, 6-2. The 24-year-old from Santiago the Chile sent down five aces, saved all five break points he faced and won 56 per cent of the total points played to prevail after one hour and 15 minutes.
World No. 141 Tabilo is seeking his seeking his second ATP Challenger career title following his maiden triumph in Guayaquil, Ecuador earlier this month. Altmaier could lift his third Challenger trophy. The World No. 100 claimed the titles on home soil at the Sparkassen Open in Braunschweig and the Sauerland Open in Lüdenscheid this season.
Altmaier won the only previous meeting between the two in the opening round of the Rhein Asset Open ATP Challenger in Meerbusch, Germany in straight sets.
Brouwer/Stalder lift maiden doubles trophies
In other action, Gijs Brouwer from the Netherlands and Reese Stalder of the United States took the doubles title. The unseeded duo upset the tournament’s top seeds and home favourites Hans Hach-Verdugo and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela 6-4, 6-4 in the championship match. The encounter lasted one hour and six minutes.
By winning their first doubles title on the ATP Challenger Tour, Brouwer and Stalder split $3,100 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
