WROCLAW, February 20, 2016

Jan Hernych has reached his first ATP Challenger final in five years facing Marco Chiudinelli in the Wroclaw Open title match on Sunday. They met two times before in the qualifying of the ATP events in Doha and Halle in 2013 with the Czech having the better ending in both occasions.

In Wroclaw’s semi-finals match, Chiudinelli gained his third consecutive win over Konstantin Kravchuk in as many meetings between the two. The 34-year-old Swiss withstood 18 aces and missed three break point chances but won the two tie-breaks to prevail in one hour and 48 minutes, winning 7-6, 7-6. Chiudinelli will appear in his second final of the season after he lost to Mikhail Youzhny in Manila in January.

Hernych defeated Dustin Brown 7-6, 6-4 in the pair’s third tour meeting. The 36-year-old Czech, who battled through the qualifying, fired 11 aces and won 82% of his first service points to reach the final after 70 minutes.

Hernych defeated the German en route to his last ATP Challenger title in Sarajevo in March 2012. He beat Brown in the semis and won the final against compatriot Jan Mertl. History is maybe repeating itself, but this time in Poland.
