Filip Horansky headlined Wednesday’s first-round action at the 88,250 Open Quimper Bretagne Occidentale held at the at the Parc des Expositions de Quimper. The 28-year-old from the Czech Republic knocked out top seed and former World No. 10 Lucas Pouille of France 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.

Horansky withstood eight aces and broke Pouille’s serve four times to secure victory in one hour and 54 minutes. The World No. 184 will next take on Maximilian Marterer of Germany, who rallied past Austria’s Sebastian Ofner 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(6) in two hours and 25 minutes. Pouille has competed in his first tournament since undergoing right elbow surgery last year. It has also been his first event since becoming a father. Last week, his wife Clemence gave birth to their first child, Rose.

Arthur Rinderknech, champion of last week’s Istanbul Indoor Challenger, opened his title bid with a 7-5, 7-6(4) win over fellow Frenchman Antoine Cornut-Chauvin, who battled through the qualifying. The World No.135 struck 11 aces and won 75 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after one hour and 30 minutes. Rinderknech, who will next take on qualifier Kacper Zuk of Poland, will be joined in the second round by Benjamin Bonzi, his opponent in the final last Sunday.

Bonzi edged out No. 8 seed Marc-Andrea Huesler of Switzerland 6-3, 6-7(2), 7-6(5). The 24-year-old Frenchman converted two of his seven break point chances to advance after two hours and six minutes. Up next for Bonzi will be Germany’s Yannick Maden.
