KARLSRUHE, August 25, 2015

Javier Martí captured his 10th ITF Future title, winning the final of the US-$ 10,000 Mauk Open in Karlsruhe against Sandro Ehrat last Sunday.

In front of about 250 spectators, the current world number 372 from Spain broke his opponent’s service at the beginning of the match and the 24-year-old Swiss produced a couple of unforced errors. Consequently, Martí closed the opening set 6-1.

The tournament’s top-seed also had strong start into the second frame, but struggled a bit in the following in particular with his first service. Yet, Ehrat wasn’t able to capitalize on his chances and Martí sealed victory, winning 6-1, 6-2.

The 23-year-old from Madrid, who claimed his second title of the season, took away US-$ 1,300 in prize money as well as 18 ATP ranking points and was satisfied with his performance and tweeted: “Great week in Germany! We leave with the cup. Feel better after bad moments. Always with work and illusion!”

Martí had to undergo two surgeries and was sidelined for more than a year and wants to climb up the rankings again, having reached a career high at 170th position in April 2012.

Ehrat still has to wait to lift his first trophy since 2013. The world number 551 told afterwards: “This was not my day and it was just a bad performance.”
