ASB Classic Auckland

STARNBERG, January 7, 2019

Reigning Next Gen ATP Finals champion Stefanos Tsitsipas broke through in a major way in 2018, climbing to a career-best No. 15 in the ATP Rankings. The Greek star will look to get off to a good start to his 2019 ATP Tour season at the Sydney International, where he is the top seed at an ATP 250 event for the first time.

Daniil Medvedev, a three-time tour-level titlist who is competing in the Brisbane final on Sunday, is the second seed and defending champion in Sydney. Other players to look out for in the draw include World No. 17 Diego Schwartzman, #NextGenATP Aussie Alex de Minaur and fourth seed Gilles Simon.

Isner leads Auckland field

John Isner, who qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time in 2018, leads an exciting field at the ASB Classic, an ATP 250 event held in Auckland, New Zealand. The American won the first of his 14 ATP Tour titles in Auckland nine years ago, and he will try to add another trophy from this event to his resumé.

But there is a lot of talent in the field. Second seed Fabio Fognini himself carries plenty of momentum from one of the best seasons of his career in 2018, during which he captured three ATP Tour titles. #NextGenATP star Denis Shapovalov, who climbed as high as No. 23 in the ATP Rankings last season, is the seventh seed.

This will be Spaniard David Ferrer‘s final appearance in Auckland, where the former World No. 3 has won four titles.
