Golden Girl Juvan Creates History At Youth Olympic Games

Kaja Juvan who has become the first player in the history of Youth Olympic Games to win two gold medals.

The fourth-seeded Slovenian defeated seventh seed Clara Burel of France 7-5, 6-4 in the singles final at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club in Argentina. In the doubles competition, she teamed up with fellow 17-year-old Iga Swiatek of Poland to beat fourth-seeded Japanese pair Yuki Naito and Naho Sato 6-7(5), 7-5, 10-4 for the doubles medal.

“I’m so happy that I was able to do this for my country, for my team, for my fans everywhere,” said Juvan. “The anthem and the flag was just a thank you for always being there for me.”

Juvan is currently No. 198 in the WTA Rankings. She has won three $25,000 ITF titles in 2018 at Balatonboglar, Hungary (d. Raluca Georgiana Serban), in Ystad, Sweden (d. Rosca) and in Bagnatica, Italy (d. Paolini).
