Three of the four seeded players in second round action on Thursday advanced to the quarterfinals of the Sánchez-Casal Mapfre. Roberto Carballés Baena, top seed of the €43,000 ATP Challenger event, beat Johan Tatlot of France 6-2, 6-4.
The World No. 90 from Spain saved five of the six break points he faced, capitalizing on four of his own to seal victory in one hour and 25 minutes. Up next for Carballés Baena will be Alessandro Giannessi from Italy.
Marco Trungelliti rallied past French qualifier Tak Khunn Wang 5-7, 7-5, 6-1. The No. 3 seed from Argentina struck nine aces, winning 63 per cent of his first service points to prevail after two hours and 43 minutes. Trungelliti will next face Pedro Sousa. The fifth favourite from Portugal defeated Spanish veteran Tommy Robredo 7-5, 7-5 in one hour and 26 minutes.

“It was a good match against a great player,” Sousa was pleased with his performance. “I played better in the decisive moments, which was the key to success.”
Filippo Baldi knocked off No. 7 seed Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. The 22-year-old Italian outpointed his opponent 105-83 in one hour and 54 minutes. Baldi will play Serbian qualifier Miljan Zekic in the stage of the final eight.
