Angelique Kerber

STARNBERG, November 16, 2017

Angelique Kerber and her longtime coach Torben Beltz part ways. This was announced by the former World No. 1 on Thursday. Kerber struggled through a difficult season, going 29-24 and dropping out of the Top 20.

The 29-year-old German enjoyed her most successful year in 2016 when she clinched two Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open and the US Open. She also ended the season with the number one ranking.

“I’m about to start a new chapter in my career, with a new coach,” Kerber told on twitter and revealed: “The next season is coming soon and I’m very excited to start working with Wim Fissette as my new coach. It’s a new chance and I’m curious to find out what we can achieve together.”

Fissette is a Belgian former professional tennis player and current coach, best known for his work with former world number ones Victoria Azarenka, Kim Clijsters, as well as Simona Halep and Johanna Konta. Fissette is fluent in German and lived in Rödlinghausen.
