Britain’s Toby Samuel continued his outstanding run in Crete by claiming back-to-back titles on the Greek island. Just one week after lifting the trophy at the ITC Crete Challenger 1, the Briton triumphed again, securing the ITC Crete Challenger 2 title.
Samuel defeated Czech teenager Maxim Mrva 6-2, 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final. The No. 2 seed of the hard-court tournament capitalized on five of his eight break-point chances and won 55 per cent of the total points played to become the first player to win the Crete Challenger title twice since the tournament was first organized in March last year. The encounter lasted 62 minutes.
