Main draw action at the second edition of the Republica Dominicana Open – Copa Cap Cana is underway. Adam Walton of Australia edged out Chilean wild card entry and former top 20 player Nicolas Jarry 7-6(5), 6-1 in the first round on Tuesday.
The No. 8 seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 175 hard-court event in the Caribbean withstood seven aces and broke Jarry’s serve three times to prevail after one hour and 31 minutes. Up next for Walton will be the winner of the encounter between Chun-Hsin Tseng of Chinese Taipei or Ecuadorian qualifier Andres Andrade.

In other action, fifth-seeded Belgian Raphael Collignon defeated Tomas Barrios Vera of Chile 7-6(4), 6-3 and Mattia Bellucci emerged victorious from the all-Italian affair with Francesco Maestrelli, winning 6-1, 6-1 in 63 minutes. Belgian youngster Alexander Blockx eased past local wild card entry Roberto Cid Subervi 6-0, 7-5 in one hour and 23 minutes and will next take on either seventh-seeded Chilean Cristian Garin or Dalibor Svrcina of the Czech Republic.
Goffin and Bautista Agut headline Wednesday action at Copa Cap Cana
Wednesday will feature a high-profile showdown as two former Top 10 players, Belgium’s David Goffin and Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut, take center stage.
Goffin, a former world No. 7 and winner of six ATP Tour titles, holds a 4–2 head-to-head advantage over Bautista Agut, including victories in their last four meetings. Bautista Agut, who reached a career-high ranking of No. 9 in the world, has captured 12 tour-level titles during his career.
Following that encounter, Dominican star Nick Hardt will step onto the Center Court at the Tennis Village in Cap Cana to face sixth seed Mariano Navone of Argentina in his opening match.
