MADRID/STARNBERG, March 5, 2026
The Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) unveiled a major strategic partnership with Generali on Thursday in Madrid, marking a significant step toward supporting the future of Spanish tennis. The agreement was officially presented at the Club Internacional de Tenis in a high-profile event attended by national team captains David Ferrer and Carla Suarez Navarro, along with several figures from Spanish tennis.
RFET president Miguel Diaz Roman and Generali Spain CEO Carlos Escudero Segura presented the details of the historic three-year agreement, which aims to promote the comprehensive development of tennis in Spain—from grassroots programs to the professional level. As part of the partnership, Generali will also become the team sponsor of the Spanish men’s national team, which will now be known as the Selección Española Generali de Tenis.
The initiative builds on the record investment of nearly €3 million in financial support for players and tournaments announced earlier this year. It also includes the consolidation of what the federation describes as the world’s most comprehensive tournament structure, reinforcement of the RFET’s technical framework, a new monitoring program for young talents, and the reactivation of regional youth training camps.
Celebrating Spanish Tennis Success
During the presentation, the federation highlighted Spain’s historic achievements in international team competitions. For the first time outside the RFET headquarters, all 11 world champion trophies won by Spain were displayed together: six Davis Cup titles and five from the Billie Jean King Cup.
“This is great news for Spanish tennis to welcome a sponsor of Generali’s importance,” said RFET president Miguel Diaz Roman. “It gives us renewed momentum as we enter a new era for our sport. With Generali’s support we can continue building the best tournament pyramid in the world, ensuring that our players have every opportunity to reach the elite.”
Generali Spain CEO Carlos Escudero Segura emphasized that the agreement goes beyond traditional sponsorship. “This partnership with the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation is much more than a sponsorship. It is an opportunity to support a sport that inspires and connects millions of people in Spain. Tennis reflects values we deeply share—effort, discipline, teamwork and passion—and we want to stand alongside those who make it possible.”
As a symbolic gesture of the partnership, the RFET president presented Escudero with a silver replica of the Manuel Alonso Trophy, awarded to Spain’s national under-14 champions.
A Year of Commemorations
The federation also announced that 2026 will be a year of major anniversaries for Spanish tennis. It will mark the centenary of Spain’s first participation in the Davis Cup and the 100th anniversary of Lili Alvarez reaching the Wimbledon singles final in 1926. In addition, Spain will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Manuel Orantes winning the 1976 Masters title.
Both national team captains, David Ferrer and Carla Suarez Navarro, stressed the importance of a prestigious brand like Generali investing in Spanish tennis and strengthening a competitive structure that allows young players to develop and compete without leaving the country.
