BRASILIA/STARNBERG, March 5, 2026
Brazil is already assured of at least one semifinalist at the Brasilia Tennis Open, an ATP Challenger 75 tournament played on clay at the Iate Clube de Brasília with total prize money of $107,000.
On Wednesday, Gustavo Heide and Eduardo Ribeiro both secured victories to book a spot in the quarterfinals, where they will face each other on Friday for a place in the semifinals.
Heide came through an all-Brazilian battle against Igor Marcondes, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in a tightly contested match. Meanwhile, Ribeiro delivered one of the biggest wins of his career by defeating third seed Jaime Faria, ranked No. 163 in the world and a quarterfinalist at the Rio Open, by 7-6(9), 6-4. Ribeiro surged to a 5-0 lead in the opening set but had to save three set points after Faria fought back to level the score before closing the tiebreak.
“It’s a place where I feel really comfortable playing. The conditions suit me well, especially the altitude,” said Heide after the match. “I’m very happy with the level I showed in the first two rounds. They were tough matches and I managed to come through.”
Ribeiro also highlighted the importance of his victory. “Without a doubt it will be among the best wins of my career in terms of ranking. It’s important to show that I’m not far from this level. He made the quarterfinals in Rio, so it proves I’m close. When the opportunities come, you have to take them.”
