It was an unusual and weather-hit Thursday at the Quini 6 Rosario Challenger presented by the Government of Santa Fe, as only two of the four scheduled singles matches could be completed at the Jockey Club, the opening stop of the South American clay-court swing.

World No. 118 Roman Andres Burruchaga, the fifth seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 125 event, was the only Argentine to secure his place in the quarterfinals. After an initial delay, Burruchaga confirmed his excellent form from the opening round and dropped just four games in a convincing win over his compatriot Genaro Olivieri, whom he defeated for the sixth time in eight meetings. After winning the title at the Buenos Aires Challenger in September last year, Burruchaga could break into the Top 100 for the first time if he goes on to lift the trophy in Rosario.

“We’ve played many times, he’s a very tough opponent who plays well. Luckily, everything we planned with the team worked perfectly. The key was being consistent,” he said in his press conference.

The other completed singles match produced a major upset, as Brazil’s Pedro Boscardin Dias (No. 268) recorded the best win of his career by defeating second seed and world No. 68 Francisco Comesana in three sets. It was Boscardin Dias’ second career victory over a Top 100 player – after beating Thiago Tirante in Curitiba in 2025 – and the result will guarantee him a new career-high ranking, as he is provisionally up to No. 250.

Before the rain returned, defending champion and top seed Camilo Ugo Carabelli (No. 48) and former Argentina Open champion Facundo Diaz Acosta (No. 301) were locked in a thrilling battle. Diaz Acosta took the first set 7–5 after winning the last five games, but Ugo Carabelli responded with a 6–4 second set to force a decider. The match will resume on Friday afternoon. At the same time on Court 1, the suspended match between seventh seed Hugo Dellien (No. 149) and qualifier Juan Manuel La Serna (No. 386) will also be completed, with Dellien leading 6–3, 1–0.
