GUIA DE ISORA/STARNBERG, February 5, 2026
With Lorenzo Giustino’s victory, the number of Italians in the quarterfinals of the Tenerife Challenger 1 has risen to three. On the Tenerife Arena, the 34-year-old from Napoli defeated Spaniard Miguel Damas 6-2, 6-4 to reach his second ATP Challenger quarterfinal of the 2026 season after Nonthaburi, Thailand.
In the final match on Thursday, not even the wind could stop Giustino’s momentum. The world No. 209 controlled the match, broke Damas’ serve six times to secure victory in one hour and 30 minutes.
“It was a difficult match because of the wind, but I tried not to let it affect me and drag me into negative patterns,” said Giustino, who last year rebuilt his ranking by winning three ITF World Tennis Tour titles and the Monastir Open Challenger.
“I’m happy with what I’ve done in 2025. I had even thought about retiring, but instead I got back close to the Top 200 by the end of the season, and that makes me really happy. I’m playing good tennis, my body feels good, and I’m traveling with my family. Winning in front of my wife and daughter is always special, even if the little one doesn’t yet understand what I do.”
In the live rankings, Giustino sits at No. 206 and is closing in on a return to the Top 200, which could become reality with a run to the final.
On Friday, the No. 4 seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 75 hard-court event will face Spanish wild card entry Pol Martin Tiffon, third seed Stefano Travaglia will take on Javier Barranco Cosano, and top seed Francesco Maestrelli will meet George Loffhagen. The remaining quarterfinal will be contested between Spaniards Alejandro Moro Canas and Daniel Merida.
