KITZBÜHEL/STARNBERG, January 22, 2026
Women’s professional tennis is set to return to Kitzbühel after a 33-year absence. From 13 to 19 July 2026, the courts of the Kitzbühel Tennis Club will host a WTA 125 tournament, adding another high-profile highlight to the Tyrolean tennis summer. Together with the Generali Open Kitzbühel, scheduled from 18 to 25 July, fans in the “Gamsstadt” (“City of the Chamois”) can look forward to two consecutive weeks of top-class international tennis.
From 1945 to 1993, women’s events were an integral part of the Kitzbühel tennis tournament for nearly five decades. Legendary names left their mark on the event, most notably Billie Jean King, who claimed the title in Kitzbühel in 1971. Now, after more than three decades, this rich tradition will be revived with the introduction of a WTA 125 tournament in the summer of 2026.
“We are delighted to be able to extend our tennis festival to two full weeks. At the same time, it is very important to us to provide women’s tennis in Austria with another prominent stage,” said Florian Zinnagl, Tournament Managing Director of the Kitzbühel Tennis Club.
The tournament will be played from 13 to 19 July at the Kitzbühel Tennis Club. The women’s finals will take place alongside the men’s qualifying rounds for the Generali Open Kitzbühel, which begin on 18 July. “This means fans can watch both the women’s finals and the men’s qualification for the ATP 250 tournament at the same time,” added event organizers Markus Bodner and Herbert Günther.
Beyond the long-standing ambition to re-establish elite women’s tennis in Kitzbühel, the event also aims to strengthen the Austrian women’s tournament calendar. Close coordination with the ITF tournament in Amstetten, which moved its date back by one week, allows players the attractive opportunity to compete in two high-level events in Austria on consecutive weeks, with minimal travel demands.
