LONDON, December 23, 2025 (ITIA Media Release)

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) today confirms that Maikel Villalona, a 21-year-old tennis player from the Dominican Republic, has been sanctioned for four years and six months under the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP).

On 15 October, Villalona was charged with five breaches of the TACP. Four breaches related to one ITF World Tennis Tour doubles match played in 2022, including two counts of contriving the outcome, receipt of money, and failure to report a corrupt approach.

The player was also charged with failure to co-operate with an ITIA investigation under the 2025 TACP, having failed to engage with five separate requests to attend an interview in early 2025. Villalona, unranked, did not respond to the charges.

In failing to respond to the ITIA charges, Villalona effectively admitted liability for all charges and acceded to the sanction, a four-year, six-month suspension and fine of $10,000 entered into effect on 30 October 2025.

Individuals have 10 business days to appeal the imposition of a deemed sanction to an independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer. Villalona elected not to appeal before the deadline.

During the period of ineligibility, Villalona is prohibited from playing in, coaching at, or attending any tennis event authorised or sanctioned by the members of the ITIA (ATP, ITF, WTA, Tennis Australia, Fédération Française de Tennis, Wimbledon and USTA) or any national association.
