Germany’s return to the semifinals of the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna has earned the national team its highest position since the introduction of the Nations Ranking.

With a dramatic 2–1 victory over Argentina in the quarterfinals, the German Team (DTB Team) climbed one spot to reach No. 2 in the latest ranking, surpassing its previous best from September 2025, when the team cracked the Top 3 for the first time. Italy, the reigning Davis Cup champion, remains at No. 1, while Spain – who defeated Germany in the semifinals – follows in third place.

“Even though we hoped for more this year in Bologna, one thing is clear: Reaching the Davis Cup semifinals three times in five years is far from a given. It’s the result of perseverance, hard work, and strong team spirit. Being ranked No. 2 for the first time reflects our consistently high-level performances in this competition,” said Davis Cup captain Michael Kohlmann.

Germany will therefore enter next year’s competition as the No. 2 seed and will face Peru at home in the first round. The tie is scheduled to take place in early February at CASTELLO Düsseldorf, with ticket sales opening soon.

The Davis Cup Nations Ranking was introduced by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in December 2001 and is updated after every competition week. It reflects teams’ performances over the past four seasons, with more recent results weighted more heavily. The current ranking covers a five-year period, as the 2020 and 2021 seasons were combined due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
