GUAYAQUIL/STARNBERG, November 21, 2025

The quarterfinal field is set at the Challenger Ciudad de Guayaquil Copa Banco Guayaquil, played at the Guayaquil Tenis Club. With Thursday’s victories from Ecuador’s Alvaro Guillen, Paraguay’s Daniel Vallejo, and Argentines Facundo Mena and Luciano Ambrogi, all eight spots are now filled.

Guillen secured another straight-sets win, though this time his match ended prematurely when Hernan Casanova retired early in the second set with a wrist injury. The 22-year-old Ecuadorian had been leading 6–1, 3–0.

“First of all, I’m a bit sorry for how the match ended, with Hernan having to stop due to injury,” Guillen said. “But I was focused on my game, playing well, and enjoying being here at home.”

He now faces Facundo Mena in Friday’s quarterfinal of the ATP Challenger Tour 75 clay-court event. Guillen expects a fierce battle: “He’s a very tough opponent. We know each other well—we’ve played a couple of times. He dropped in the rankings because of injury, but he’s coming back strong, with two good wins here. It will be a difficult match, but I’ll give my best.”

Guillen leads their head-to-head record 2–0, with both wins coming last season in Santa Cruz de la Sierra and Ibagué.

Vallejo Staying Solid as Second Seed

World No. 163 Daniel Vallejo, following in the footsteps of compatriot and South American tennis icon Ramon Delgado, advanced to yet another quarterfinal this season. He defeated Venezuela’s Luis David Martinez 6–2, 6–3 and will meet Argentina’s Luciano Ambrogi, who has quietly played his way into the final eight.
