Jannik Sinner’s arrival at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna created a buzz on Monday afternoon. His first practice session at the Marx Halle, one of the tournament’s match locations, was packed with enthusiastic fans eager to see the Italian star. After two hours on court, Sinner happily signed autographs and posed for selfies, much to the delight of his large following.

Following practice, the 2023 Vienna champion moved on to the Stadthalle for a busy media schedule. Six TV stations conducted interviews, additional social media content was filmed, and Sinner held a press conference where he answered questions at length.
The World No. 2 made it clear how much the tournament means to him. “I have a lot of positive memories of this event. It gave me opportunities with wildcards many years ago, and I won here two years ago. I’m feeling good physically and mentally, and I’ll try to play my best tennis. I’m ready to serve here and hope for a great week,” Sinner said, noting that his parents are in Vienna to support him.
He also underlined the proximity to home as an advantage. “The tournament is not far—just a six-hour drive by car. Vienna is a beautiful event at the end of the season, and it’s special for my family, too. The crowd gives you extra energy when you’re tired or things aren’t going your way. Hopefully, the atmosphere will be just as good as in previous years.”
Sinner explained his decision not to represent Italy in the Final 8 of the Davis Cup in Bologna, saying it was a team decision to have an extra week to prepare for next season. He also expressed confidence in young Austrian talent Lilli Tagger, who clinched this year’s French Open Junior title at Roland Garros: “She has the full package to reach the top of the game.”
Later, at “Tom’s Talk” with tournament ambassador Thomas Muster, Sinner shared personal insights into his career in front of a large audience. The day ended with the traditional players’ dinner at the famous restaurant Plachutta Wollzeile, continuing one of the tournament’s most beloved traditions.
