SANTA PONSA, October 4, 2025 (Press Release)
The Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women’s Championships presented by ecotrans Group officially kicked off on Saturday with the Main Draw Ceremony and the first round of qualifying matches at both the Mallorca Country Club and TC Magaluf.
Germany’s Noma Noha Akugue attended the draw ceremony in representation of the players, in an event led by WTA Supervisor Mariana Alves, joined by Tournament Director Niko Paunovic, Pilar Carbonell, Managing Director of e|motion Sports Spain, and the tournament’s ball kids.
The draw set up several exciting first-round encounters, including an all-Spanish clash between Guiomar Maristany and Irene Burillo. Akugue herself will face Hungary’s Panna Udvardy, the No. 4 seed, while German wildcards Mariella Thamm and Julia Stusek will take on top seed Mayar Sherif and Despina Papamichail, respectively.
Under sunny skies, fans enjoyed a vibrant atmosphere across both venues, with competitive matches on court and plenty of fun in the children’s activity zone at Mallorca Country Club.
On court, Carole Monnet of France defeated Germany’s Maxine Kammerer 6-0, 6-0, while Aneta Kucmova from the Czech Republic overcame Tea Kovacevic of Bosnia and Herzegovina 6-2, 6-4. Serbia’s Teodora Kostovic beat local wildcard Mireia Sagristà Bermejo 6-3, 6-1, with the young Mallorcan showing great fighting spirit in front of her home crowd.
Mallorca’s Yvonne Cavallé-Reimers battled hard but fell to Italy’s Dalila Spiteri 6-0, 7-5, staging a strong comeback in the second set that nearly forced a decider. Other results included Ekaterina Kazionova of Russia defeating Min Liu from China 6-0, 6-1, and Yelyzaveta Kotliar of Ukraine overcoming German Tessa Johanna Brockmann 6-3, 6-1.
