BAD WALTERSDORF, September 19, 2025
Second seed Vit Kopriva moved smoothly into the quarterfinals of the LAYJET OPEN on Thursday morning, dispatching Austria’s Joel Schwaerzler 6-4, 6-2 on the Sportpark’s Center Court.
The World No. 102 from the Czech Republic was briefly tested at the start of each set but quickly found his rhythm. A single break decided the opener, and in the second set Kopriva broke for 3-2 and never looked back, sweeping the remaining games to seal victory in just over an hour.

“I had a lot of plans and knew that I could beat him, even though he’s ranked much higher,” a disappointed Schwaerzler said afterwards. “I did it last year in Valencia, but this time he adjusted better to my game. I never really got into the match and in the key moments I was missing what you need in close contests.”
In other second-round action, No. 3 seed Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain fought past local wild card entry Sandro Kopp 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 and fifth-seeded Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta beat Austrian wild card Sebastian Sorger 7-5, 6-4. Zdenek Kolar, Roman Andres Burruchaga, Francesco Passaro, Hynek Barton and Jan Choinski also reached the stage of the final eight of the ATP Challenger Tour 125 event in Styria.
