Santa Ponça, Mallorca – 29 August 2025 –
Professional women’s tennis is back on the island of Mallorca. Tickets are now on sale for the inaugural WTA 125 Mallorca Women’s Championships presented by ecotrans Group, to be held from 4 to 12 October in Santa Ponça and Magaluf. Organised by e|motion Sports España, the event will showcase international players on Calvià’s red clay courts. The full player field will be announced in the coming weeks.
Building on Mallorca’s growing reputation as a destination for sport events, the tournament offers a fresh stage for rising stars and the next generation of professionals. Unlike the Mallorca Open, staged between 2016 and 2019, the new WTA 125 will be contested on clay, underscoring the island’s ambition to host high-profile events beyond the summer season.
Edwin Weindorfer, CEO of e|motion group, emphasised the broader vision behind the event: “Staging a WTA tournament in Mallorca strengthens the island’s position on the international tennis map and confirms Calvià as a year-round sports destination. We are grateful for the support of the Balearic government (Govern), the Mallorca Island’s Coincil (Consell de Mallorca) and the Ayuntamiento de Calvià (Calvià Town Hall), whose commitment makes it possible to continue expanding the range of world-class events in the Balearics.”
The matches will be played both at the Mallorca Country Club in Santa Ponça and at the Municipal Sports Centre of Magaluf. This initiative, made possible through the collaboration of the Calvià Town Hall and Playas de Santa Ponça TC, aims to bring the qualifying, first- and second-round matches closer to fans across the municipality. From Thursday, 9 October, all remaining matches of the competition will be staged exclusively at the Mallorca Country Club.
Fabian Kainz, General Manager of the Mallorca Country Club, welcomed the addition of a WTA event to the venue’s calendar: “We are delighted that, alongside the ATP Mallorca Championships on grass, we can now also host a professional WTA tournament on our clay courts. As a Grand Slam-style facility, the Mallorca Country Club offers a unique variety with tennis on grass, clay and hard courts, as well as padel and pickleball.”
Pilar Carbonell, Director of e|motion Sports España, commented: “With this tournament, we are not only bringing professional women’s tennis back to Mallorca, but also making a clear commitment to grassroots sport – opening the game to families, young people and the wider public.”
