TODI, August 10, 2025
The Internazionali di Tennis Città di Todi | CERgo Tennis Cup was officially presented at the Sala Vetrata of the Portici Comunali. The ATP Challenger 75 Tour event, organized by MEF Tennis Events on the clay courts of Tennis Club Todi 1971, will celebrate its 17th edition from August 10 to 16.
The press conference was attended by Todi Mayor Antonino Ruggiano; City Councilor for Social Services and Sport, Alessia Marta; City Councilor for Finance, Elena Baglioni; CERgo representative and title sponsor, Salvatore Micoli; former Tournament Director of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, Sergio Palmieri; CONI Umbria Vice President, Fabio Moscatelli; FITP board member and former Umbria Regional Committee President, Roberto Carraresi; new FITP Umbria President, Maurizio Mencaroni; and MEF Tennis Events CEO, Marcello Marchesini.
Mayor Ruggiano: “A project that has grown with the city”
Mayor Antonino Ruggiano, a supporter of the event since its inception, shared his personal connection with the tournament: “When I talk about this event, I always get a little emotional, because my journey with the tennis club began alongside my candidacy for mayor. Seventeen years ago, Marcello Marchesini had a brilliant intuition, choosing to build a project aimed at greatness. Over the years, the combined efforts of everyone involved have led to incredible results that should make us all proud. The Tennis Club Todi 1971 is now a modern facility, further improved with a new players’ lounge and gym, but this tournament also brings excitement and work opportunities to the entire city. This year, we had the pleasure of hosting the Davis Cup, which was truly moving for me. Many years have passed already, and I hope this will continue for many more to come.”
Sergio Palmieri: “A passion you can feel”
Sergio Palmieri, the long-time director of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, praised the spirit behind the Todi event:
“My relationship with the Todi tournament is very special. I am fascinated by the passion surrounding the organization of these tournaments, especially this stop in Umbria. In my career, I’ve experienced many major events, but paradoxically, organizing them is almost easier because everything is already in place. In events like this, every detail is more complex, so achieving a high level of professionalism is an even greater accomplishment. I come here every year and hope to keep doing so, because I always find a healthy and valuable environment where great passion is tangible.”
New title sponsor CERgo embraces the vision
Salvatore Micoli, representing new title sponsor CERgo, expressed his enthusiasm:
“I must admit I hadn’t fully realized the great excitement of being here for what is a new beginning for us. Seeing so many people in Todi for the tournament presentation and to see the Davis Cup fills me with joy. We believe strongly in sustainability, which must go hand in hand with sport. Athletes are the perfect example of this concept, as they indirectly promote a healthy lifestyle. CERgo’s role is also to spread knowledge about green energy and energy communities. We started in Umbria, where we’ve already achieved very encouraging results, so being in Todi alongside MEF Tennis Events is a pleasure and an opportunity to become even better known.”
Marchesini: “A strong entry list for 2025”
Marcello Marchesini, CEO of MEF Tennis Events, underlined the growth of the tournament:
“Since 2007, Tennis Club Todi 1971 has hosted 22 international tournaments, and over time we have all grown. I must thank the City of Todi, which has always been by our side, our title sponsor CERgo – with whom we began collaborating in March – and Sidernestor, which has supported our events from the start. We have always aimed to improve, and it’s gratifying to see how far we’ve come. We are enjoying the presence of the Davis Cup in the city, a trophy I care deeply about, having had the privilege of attending our national team’s matches. The entry list for this 17th edition looks very promising, with highly talented players who I believe represent the present and, above all, the future of tennis both in Italy and beyond. We are ready and look forward to welcoming everyone to the club for another week of international tennis.
