BONN/STARNBERG, August 8, 2025

Day six of the Bonn Open 2025 trimmed the field of title contenders to four, with Austrian duo Joel Schwaerzler and Jurij Rodionov delivering standout performances.

Schwaerzler produced a gutsy performance to defeat fourth-seeded Vilius Gaubas of Lithuania. The Austrian, who failed to convert his break chances and conceded the only break point of the first set, found himself trailing early. But the 19-year-old fought his way back in the second set, forcing a decider.

With the crowd on the packed Center Court behind him, Schwaerzler, a former junior World No. 1, kept his cool in the deciding tiebreak. A composed display saw him seal the match 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(4) to book his place in the semifinals of the ATP Challenger Tour 75 event in Germany.

Collignon Keeps Rolling

Earlier in the day, No. 2 seed Raphael Collignon opened play on Center Court with a straight-sets victory over Brazil’s Joao Lucas Reis da Silva. The Belgian was pushed hard but came through in the key moments, displaying his experience to close out a 6-3, 7-5 win in one hour and 35 minutes.

Rodionov in Command

Jurij Rodionov continued his strong campaign with a convincing win over Argentina’s Lautaro Midon. The Austrian edged a competitive first set in a tiebreak before taking full control in the second, using his composure and variety to secure a 7-6(2), 6-1 victory.

Skatov Advances After Injury Retirement

Kazakhstan’s Timofey Skatov had a straightforward passage to the final four, as Bulgarian qualifier Yanaki Milev was forced to retire due to a shoulder injury. Struggling particularly on his backhand side, the 21-year-old Milev retired while trailing 6-0, 3-0.

Rühl/Zahraj Keep German Hopes Alive in Doubles

The all-German pair of Tim Rühl and Patrick Zahraj kept home hopes alive in the doubles draw with a dramatic semifinal win over Gerard Campana Lee and Anton Matusevich. After dropping a close opening set in a tiebreak, Rühl and Zahraj stormed back to take the second and edged the match tiebreak 10-7.

They will face fourth seeds Neil Oberleitner of Austria and Mick Veldheer of the Netherlands in the final. Oberleitner and Veldheer defeated Victor Cornea and Sergio Martos Gornes 6-1, 7-6(3) to advance.
