LEXINGTON/STARNBERG, August 4, 2025
The North American hard court swing continued last week on the ATP Challenger Tour with the Lexington Open, where Zachary Svajda emerged as the champion. The sixth-seeded US-American battled back in the final to defeat Australia’s Bernard Tomic 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 and claim the title.
Svajda’s path to the final was anything but easy. The 21-year-old from California overcame US-American qualifier Alex Rybakov, Japan’s Ryuki Matsuda, top seed Nishesh Basavareddy from the United States, and Yu Hsiou Hsu of Chinese Taipei to reach Sunday’s championship match.

The win marks Svajda’s sixth career title on the ATP Challenger Tour and his second of the season, following his triumph on grass at the Hall of Fame Open in Newport just last month. He earned $14,200 in prize money as well as 75 ATP Ranking points. With his solid performances on different surfaces this summer, Svajda continues to solidify his status as one of the most promising young players on the US-American tennis circuit.
The 30th edition of the Lexington Open offered a total prize pool of $100,000 and was hosted by the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center in Lexington, Kentucky, often referred to as the “Horse Capital of the World”. It is a vibrant city in the heart of the Bluegrass Region. Known for its rolling hills, thoroughbred horse farms, and historic racetracks like Keeneland, Lexington blends Southern charm with a rich cultural heritage.
It’s also home to the University of Kentucky, which adds youthful energy and a strong basketball tradition to the city’s identity. With a growing food scene, scenic countryside, and a deep connection to equestrian culture, Lexington offers a unique mix of tradition and modern vitality.
