BASTAD, July 16, 2025
Just days after falling short in the semifinals of the BRAWO Open ATP Challenger in Braunschweig, Filip Misolic has reached a major milestone in his career: for the first time, the 23-year-old Austrian has broken into the Top 100 of ATP Rankings.
The breakthrough came on Wednesday at the Nordea Open in Bastad, where Misolic battled past Denmark’s Elmer Moller in a grueling three-set encounter, winning 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. The match lasted two hours and 41 minutes, with Misolic overcoming seven aces from his opponent and breaking serve six times to secure the hard-fought victory.
“It was amazing, very happy to be through. I am tired but I knew it would become a tough one. I stayed focused and happy with my game today,” Misolic said after the match.
He also expressed gratitude for the support from the Swedish crowd: “I am glad that so many people came out to support us. I enjoyed the atmosphere.”
Next up for Misolic is a challenging second-round clash with the tournament’s defending champion, Nuno Borges. “I will watch a couple of videos with my team to find a good tactic, as he is in good shape and won the tournament last year,” Misolic explained.
His recent performances are fueled by growing confidence, not least due to a significant career highlight earlier this month: his main draw debut at Wimbledon.
“Wimbledon is probably the tournament in tennis,” Misolic told Tennis TourTalk in Braunschweig with admiration. “Just being able to play on the main grounds was something special. Even though I lost in the first round to Jan-Lennard Struff – I enjoyed every point.”
With his Top 100 debut now official and a Grand Slam breakthrough experience under his belt, the young Austrian’s dream of becoming a consistent contender on the sport’s biggest stages is closer than ever.
