LUANCO/STARNBERG, July 15, 2025

Frenchman Benoit Paire will step in to replace Argentine Federico Coria for the opening day of the XXXVIII Torneo BDO Tenis Playa Luanco. Coria, still recovering from an elbow injury, has withdrawn from the beach event, leaving the door open for Paire, a former World No. 18, to make his debut on the sands of La Ribera.

Paire will take the court on August 4, facing Spain’s Miguel Avendaño in the second match of the day. Earlier that evening, the tournament will kick off with a match between Argentina’s Pedro Cachín and Spain’s Bernardo Munk.

Coria, who was excited to experience and share the unique beach tennis atmosphere in Luanco with his fans, expressed his regret over withdrawing: “I’m still not in condition to compete,” he said, currently in his seventh week of recovery. “I also feel the need to return to playing tournaments as soon as possible to climb back up the rankings.”

Coria added: “I’m very disappointed not to be part of this edition. I was really looking forward to participating and capturing the experience on video for the Mojarra YouTube community.”

Known for his flair and fiery personality, 36-year-old Paire has long held the label of “enfant terrible” in French and international tennis. Despite his current ranking of World No. 508, he has an impressive resume that includes three ATP singles titles:

Bastad (2015), defeating Tommy Robredo

Marrakech (2019), defeating Pablo Andújar

Lyon (2019), defeating Félix Auger-Aliassime

Paire also claimed an ATP doubles title in 2013 in Chennai, India, alongside Swiss star Stan Wawrinka.
