San Marino Open 2025: Italy’s Rising Stars, Top Clay-Court Talent Set For ATP Challenger Highlight

San Marino Open

SAN MARINO/STARNBERG, July 10, 2025

The 32nd edition of the Internazionali di Tennis San Marino Open, one of the summer’s most anticipated events on the ATP Challenger Tour, is set to take place from Sunday, July 13 to Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the scenic Centro Tennis Cassa di Risparmio di Fonte dell’Ovo. With a prize pool of €181,250, this ATP Challenger 125 tournament once again promises thrilling tennis action and a vibrant atmosphere in the heart of San Marino.

A Prestigious Summer Tradition

During the official tournament presentation, San Marino’s Secretary of State for Sport, Rossano Fabbri, emphasized the significance of the event:

“This tournament, founded in 1988 and now in its 32nd edition, is a true jewel in San Marino’s sporting crown. Last year, it was recognized as the best Challenger in Europe and Africa – an award granted by the players themselves, which makes it all the more meaningful.”

Fabbri also highlighted the event’s positive impact on tourism and its value in promoting tennis to young people during what he described as a “golden era” for the sport.

A Showcase for the Next Generation

Federico Pedini Amati, Secretary of State for Tourism, echoed this enthusiasm, pointing to the tournament’s ideal timing and stunning setting:

“Our ATP Challenger needs no comparison – the location speaks for itself. With tennis enjoying renewed popularity thanks to Jannik Sinner’s achievements, it’s the perfect time to support events like this. We are working with the Olympic Committee and the Tennis Federation to strengthen the tournament further in the years to come.”

New Dates, New Energy

A key change for the 2025 edition is its rescheduled date. Elia Santi, the newly appointed president of the San Marino Tennis Federation, explained:

“Positioning the tournament right after Wimbledon and before the American hard-court swing allows us to attract high-caliber players looking to compete on European clay, avoiding scheduling conflicts with higher-tier events.”

Tournament Director Mahena Abbati, now in her third year in the role, shared her heartfelt appreciation:

“This tournament is a year-long effort and a labor of love. The success we had in 2024—being named best Challenger out of 207 events in 48 countries—belongs to everyone who works tirelessly behind the scenes.”

Among the new features this year:

A redesigned Hospitality Village with an additional food station and live information displays.

Improved public access and ticketing infrastructure, in collaboration with the local football federation.

Over 100 hotel rooms booked for players and staff, with a strong commitment to hiring local professionals and involving young people as line judges and support crew.

Star-Studded Entry List

On the competitive front, the 2025 entry list is led by Valentin Royer of France, currently just outside the world’s top 100. Italian up-and-comer Matteo Gigante, who reached the third round at Roland Garros after defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas, is seeded third. Other Italians to watch include:
