HAMBURG, June 26, 2025

From July 13 to 20, 2025, the historic Rothenbaum Tennis Complex in Hamburg will host the MSC Hamburg Ladies Open, welcoming international stars of women’s tennis such as Berlin finalist Xinyu Wang, alongside the best German players. With Eva Lys, Tatjana Maria, Ella Seidel, and Laura Siegemund already directly qualified for the main draw, four hometown favorites will represent Germany. As additional wildcards are expected to go to local players, the MSC Hamburg Ladies Open is already shaping up to be the WTA tournament in Germany with the highest number of home favourites in the main draw.

Leading the entry list is China’s Xinyu Wang, fresh off her first career WTA Tour singles final in Berlin—an impressive run that included a victory over reigning French Open champion Coco Gauff. Currently ranked No. 33 in the world, Wang is seen as one of the fastest-rising stars on tour. “I’m really excited to come back to Germany and play in Hamburg after reaching the final in Berlin,” said Wang. “I’ve heard so many wonderful things about the city and the tournament.”

Joining her is Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan (WTA No. 34), making her third appearance in Hamburg, and Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine (WTA No. 42), who is also in excellent form. Yastremska recently reached the final in Nottingham and earlier this year made headlines by reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open. She also contested the final of the WTA 500 event in Linz, organized by Sandra Reichel, who also serves as the tournament director in Hamburg. “Reaching the semifinals here in 2021 was very special to me,” said Yastremska. “I love Hamburg and its atmosphere. I can’t wait to be back on that incredible center court.”

Reichel is equally enthusiastic. “Xinyu Wang and Dayana Yastremska are both in top form and certainly among the favorites. I was especially impressed by Wang’s performance in Berlin. I’ve known Dayana for years—she’s been loyal to our events and always brings great energy.”

The Rothenbaum will also be a major stage for Germany’s elite players. Along with top names Tatjana Maria and Eva Lys, local favorite Ella Seidel and long-time Billie Jean King Cup player Laura Siegemund are directly into the main draw. For Seidel, it’s a cherished home event. “The anticipation for my home tournament is huge,” said Seidel. “I’ve always enjoyed playing here and have big goals for this year. I want to soak up the atmosphere on Center Court and hopefully use it to my advantage. I really hope lots of fans will come out—I can’t wait for it to start.”

Siegemund, who made a surprise run to the third round of the Australian Open this year, echoed the sentiment: “It would mean a lot to play at Rothenbaum for the first time. German tournaments always have a special place in our hearts, and playing in front of a home crowd is something truly unique.”

As Reichel adds, “In coordination with the German Tennis Federation, we’ll be awarding more wildcards to local players. That means we’ll officially have the highest number of German players in the main draw of any WTA tournament in the country, which is fantastic. I hope the electric atmosphere will inspire our players and that the fans will give them strong support.”

Fans can also look forward to the return of past champions. Anna Bondar, the reigning champion from Hungary, and Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands—winner in 2023 and finalist in 2024—have both confirmed their participation and will be back at the Rothenbaum to chase more glory.
