HAMBURG, June 18, 2025

Tatjana Maria is set to make her long-awaited debut at the MSC Hamburg Ladies Open from July 13 to 20, 2025, following the biggest win of her career at the prestigious WTA 500 grass-court tournament at London’s Queen’s Club. The 37-year-old German stunned the field and claimed the title with a commanding victory over US-American Amanda Anisimova in the final, a result that vaulted her to No. 43 in the WTA Rankings and made her the new German No. 1.

“Playing in Hamburg for the first time means so much to me,” said Maria. “It’s one of the most historic women’s tournaments in Germany, and I’m really looking forward to performing in front of a home crowd. I hope lots of fans come out to the Rothenbaum to support us.”

Maria’s career has spanned over two decades, having turned professional in 2001. The Queen’s Club title marks her fourth WTA Tour title, following triumphs on clay in Bogotá in 2022 and 2023, and on grass in Mallorca in 2018. Now, with her career in peak form, Maria will look to capture a long-awaited title on home soil.

The veteran right-hander will arrive in Hamburg fresh from competing at Wimbledon, where she famously reached the semifinals in 2022. Her Queen’s Club victory reestablishes her as a serious contender on grass and clay alike, raising expectations ahead of her Hamburg appearance.

Maria is known for her distinctive playing style—highlighted by a rare one-handed backhand and a tactical slice game that disrupts even the most powerful opponents. At Queen’s, she took down Grand Slam champions Elena Rybakina and Madison Keys, showcasing her variety and court intelligence.

Tournament Director Sandra Reichel expressed her excitement about Maria’s participation: “Tatjana Maria is a role model in every sense. She’s an extraordinary athlete who has proven time and again that motherhood and elite tennis can go hand in hand. Her victory at Queen’s was well-deserved, and I’m proud to welcome her to Hamburg.”

Tournament ambassador and former World No. 9 Andrea Petkovic added: “I’m thrilled that Tatjana will play in Hamburg. She’s a fantastic example of what can be achieved through resilience, joy, and discipline. She inspires me every time she steps on the court, and I’m sure the Hamburg crowd will feel the same.”

Tatjana Maria travels the tour as a tight-knit team with her husband and their two daughters, and Hamburg will be no exception. With the support of her family and fans behind her, she’ll be one of the standout names to watch at the MSC Hamburg Ladies Open, alongside fellow top-ranked German Eva Lys. Maria, who came through qualifying to win at Queen’s, is now chasing another dream: lifting a trophy on home soil.
