PERUGIA/STARNBERG, May 20, 2025
The Internazionali di Tennis Città di Perugia | G.I.Ma. Tennis Cup is set to mark a historic milestone in 2025 as it celebrates its 10th edition. From June 8 to 15, the capital of Umbria will once again host the prestigious ATP Challenger Tour 125 tournament, organized by MEF Tennis Events. The tournament will not only deliver high-level tennis on the red clay courts of the Tennis Club Perugia but also a series of off-court initiatives to commemorate this special anniversary.
Following a strong Italian tradition in recent editions—with Edoardo Lavagno reaching the final in 2023 and current World No. 45 Luciano Darderi lifting the trophy last year—the tournament’s entry list again features a strong Italian presence. G.I.Ma. remains the tournament’s title sponsor, continuing its essential support for bringing top-tier tennis to the region.
Italian wave continues: At least six Azzurri in main draw
In 2024, the Italian contingent made a strong impact in Perugia, and that trend looks set to continue. The 2025 entry list is led by World No. 63 Roberto Carballes Baena and includes at least six Italian players in the main draw, with more potentially joining through qualifying rounds or wild cards.
Among the standout names is World No. 94 Luca Nardi, the third seed in the tournament. Considered one of Italy’s most promising young talents, Nardi is aiming to boost his season in Perugia. Also headlining is Francesco Passaro, the local favorite who recently reached the third round at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, defeating World No. 15 Grigor Dimitrov.
Matteo Gigante, fresh off his Challenger win in Rome and a second-round appearance at the Foro Italico, is looking to continue his form. Rounding out the Italian presence are Andrea Pellegrino, Federico Arnaboldi, and Francesco Maestrelli.
The field also boasts international players such as former World No. 23 Dusan Lajovic, a clay-court specialist with two ATP titles, and former World No. 17 Bernard Tomic. Among the rising stars is Mexican Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez, a former Junior World No. 1 in both singles and doubles, who is ready to make an impression in Perugia.
