For one unforgettable set, Federico Arnaboldi had the home crowd at the Circolo della Stampa Sporting in Turin dreaming big. Facing former World No. 20 Alexander Bublik in the final Round of 16 match at the Piemonte Open Intesa Sanpaolo, the 24-year-old Italian delivered the set of his life — a flawless 6-0 in just over 20 minutes — against arguably the strongest opponent he’s faced in his career.
But Bublik, known for his unpredictable and mercurial style, flipped the switch in typical fashion. After a dismal opening set, the Kazakh regrouped and found his rhythm, taking control of the match with his firepower and variety to ultimately win 0-6, 6-3, 6-3 in an unusual three-set battle lasting 95 minutes.

With the win, Bublik — currently ranked No. 76 in the ATP rankings — booked the final spot in Friday’s quarterfinals of the ATP Challenger Tour 175 event, which now features six of the eight seeded players.
Awaiting him in the quarters is No. 3 seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry, a former top-30 player and 2023 Roland Garros quarterfinalist. The Argentine didn’t shine in his Torino debut, but clawed through a tough two-hour encounter against Ukraine’s Vitaliy Sachko, winning 7-6, 7-6. Etcheverry is known for growing stronger with each round, and his upcoming clash with Bublik promises fireworks in the evening session.
