CORDOBA/STARNBERG, February 10, 2024

Three Argentines advanced to the semi-finals of the Cordoba Open led by defending champion Sebastian Baez. The No. 2 seed of the ATP Tour 250 clay-court event defeated his doubles partner in the gold medal triumph at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, Facundo Diaz Acosta 6-3, 6-1.

Baez, 23, capitalized on all of his five break-point opportunities to secure victory in one hour and five minutes.

“It was a good day, I played better as the match progressed. I’m happy because tomorrow I’ll have the opportunity to do even better. It was one of my best matches of the year,” analyzed Báez, who will next take on Luciano Darderi. The Italian qualifier edged past No. 7 seed Yannick Hanfmann of Germany 7-6(2), 6-1 in one hour and 38 minutes.

Baez will be joined in the stage of the final four by his compatriots Federico Coria and Facundo Bagnis. Coria knocked out No. 3 seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 49 minutes. Bagnis, who battled through the qualifying, continued his fine run of form this week on home soil by beating Jaume Munar of Spain 7-5, 6-4 in two hours and 24 minutes.
