Tirante will next face fellow Argentine Roman Andres Burruchaga. In one of the most thrilling matches of the tournament, Burruchaga defeated the fifth-seeded Brazilian Thiago Monteiro 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(6). The match lasted three hours and 16 minutes, making it the longest of the week.

In another quarterfinal match, the Italian former World No. 16, Marco Cecchinato, triumphed over Moldovan Radu Albot 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Cecchinato’s opponent in the semifinals will be his compatriot Gianluca Mager, who defeated Argentine Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-3, 6-2. Mager, a former World No. 62, entered the main draw after going through the qualifying and now advances to the last four of the largest ATP Challenger Tour tournament in the history of the city of Maldonado, Uruguay.
