PORTOROZ/STARNBERG, February 28, 2026
Portoroz will become a key hub of international tennis in Slovenia in the first half of the year, staging three major events at the newly renovated courts of the Portoroz Tennis Centre. The highlight will undoubtedly be the Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers, followed by two ITF World Tennis Tour tournaments offering prize money of $60,000 and $40,000 respectively.
In the Billie Jean King Cup, Slovenia will face Spain in the final stage of qualification for the Finals. The tie will take place on April 10 and 11.
“I can’t wait for the tie. We will arrive in Portoroz a week earlier and I believe we will prepare well. Regardless of the opponent, we always have a chance to win, because I truly believe in the quality of our players. I invite all fans to come to Portoroz. We will be very happy for your support,” said Slovenia’s team captain Masa Zec Peskiric ahead of the clash.
Slovenia earned its place at this stage last November in India, where the team defeated both the Netherlands and the host nation to move up to a higher tier of the competition. To secure a second appearance at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, Slovenia must now overcome Spain. It was in Spain in November 2023 that the Slovenian team achieved its greatest success to date, reaching the semifinals before falling to Italy.
Two ITF Tournaments to Follow
After the Billie Jean King Cup tie, Portoroz will host two ITF World Tennis Tour tournaments. The first, with a prize fund of $60,000, will be held from April 13 to 19. The second, offering $40,000 in prize money, is scheduled for May 18 to 24.
“We at the Tennis Slovenia are delighted to return to Portoroz, where we organized two WTA tournaments in 2021 and 2022. During those two years, outstanding players competed here, including Grand Slam champions. They were all impressed with the conditions, which is why we can truly say that Portoroz is a tennis city. We saw that again last May when we organized a WTT50 tournament. For that event, we recently received an award for excellent organization. I sincerely thank the Municipality of Piran and the mayor for their support and cooperation in hosting such important sporting events. Special thanks also go to all our sponsors, without whom it would not be possible to stage events at such a high level. We look forward to a tennis-rich spring and a fantastic atmosphere in Portoroz,” said Tennis Slovenia director Tea Starc.
