Frederico Ferreira Silva celebrated a career milestone in India as the 30-year-old captured his maiden ATP Challenger Tour title at the Coromandel Chennai Open. The Portuguese veteran capped a week of composed and consistent performances with a breakthrough triumph, marking the biggest success of his professional career to date.
Ferreira Silva advanced to the championship match of the hard-court event with wins over home favourite Karan Singh, Duje Ajdukovic of Croatia, Ioannis Xilas from Greece and fourth-seeded Russian Ilia Simakin.
The No. 6 seed eventually outlasted second favourite Federico Agustin Gomez of Argentina 6-4, 6-7(10), 6-4 in Sunday’s final. Ferreira Silva withstood 13 aces and broke his rival five times to secure victory in two hours and 58 minutes.

“I knew it was going to be a tough match against a very good opponent,” the world No. 255 said. “I just tried to prepare in the best way possible for a long match and in the end, I’m very happy with the win! I just tried to keep myself positive and that was my main focus throughout the match.”
Following 20 triumphs on the ITF Pro Circuit, Ferreira Silva lifted his maiden Challenger trophy and earned $9,500 in prize money as well as 50 ATP Ranking points.
The Coromandel Chennai Open offered a total prize pool of $63,000 and was hosted by the SDAT Tennis Stadium.
