Alina Korneeva capped another golden week in Portugal by winning the Women’s Indoor Oeiras Open, the first of two consecutive WTA 125 tournaments staged at the Jamor Tennis Complex in Oeiras.

Korneeva’s fifth title on Portuguese soil carried special meaning. Fifteen years earlier, her coach Anabel Medina Garrigues had lifted the former Estoril Open trophy on the clay courts of the same complex.

Now increasingly accustomed to celebrating in Portugal, the 18-year-old Russian ranked No. 157 claimed her 41st career victory within the country’s borders by defeating Czech Darja Vidmanova 7-5, 6-1 in a final that marked the biggest title match of both players’ careers.

The triumph represents the ninth trophy of Korneeva’s career — and her second of 2026 — as well as her fifth in Portugal. She previously won the ITF World Tennis Tour W100 events in Figueira da Foz (2023) and Caldas da Rainha (2024), and the ITF W50 tournaments in Leiria and Évora in back-to-back weeks in 2025. That same year, she also returned to the final in Figueira da Foz.

“I’m very, very happy to have won another title in Portugal. It’s like a lucky charm. I can’t explain it, but there’s something special. I believe in many things in life, and it’s true that I feel a special connection to this country. I hope one day they organize a ‘Masters’ or even a Grand Slam here because I would be very happy to play,” she said with a smile before departing for Les Sables-d’Olonne.

Korneeva leaves behind the disappointment of having missed entry into a second consecutive WTA 125 event due to registration issues, but — just as she did three years ago — she bids farewell to Portugal with the biggest title of her career in her luggage.
