STOKE PARK/STARNBERG, June 28, 2025
Day 5 at The Boodles welcomed the World No. 1 doubles player Marcelo Arevalo and the top-ranked junior player Andres Santamarta Roig to Stoke Park on Saturday while the Japanese No. 2 Yoshihito Nishioka faced 16-year-old rising star Dante Pagani.
Nishioka won 6-4, 7-6(4) and faces Grigor Dimitrov in the first round of Wimbledon next week. He was very glad to have the opportunity to play on the prestigious grass at Stoke Park. Pagani, who is ranked World No. 42 in the Junior Rankings, will play the boys singles at The Championships.
“It’s my first time at The Boodles and it’s great timing to play a couple sets before Wimbledon starts,” said Nishioka. “It’s the perfect practice before Wimbledon and yeah it’s a great feeling to be here.”
World No. 52 Pedro Martinez defeated 18-year-old prodigy Santamarta Roig 6-3, 6-2 to finish off his campaign at The Boodles. On a sun-soaked Saturday afternoon, Martinez battled the heat to put in a fabulous performance ahead of his opening round at Wimbledon on Tuesday. As for Santamarta Roig, he turns his attention to the boys event at The Championships after an enjoyable debut at The Boodles.
“I think these experiences are very important and also even more if I’m playing Wimbledon juniors next week so I think it’s a really good thing to do to play matches against top ATP players and to play on grass which is different to a lot of courts,” the Spanish teenager stated.
On playing Wimbledon juniors, Santamarta Roig added: “In my opinion Wimbledon is the nicest one. It’s just amazing, everything is beautiful there. I think the tradition is from many years ago and it will continue for many years which I like and it differentiates this tournament from the others.”
Rohan Bopanna and Marcelo Arevalo finished off play at The Boodles for 2025 with an impressive 6-2, 6-2 victory over Brit Marcus Willis and Australian John-Patrick Smith. World No. 1 Arevalo partnered with former World No.1 Bopanna to make up a formidable pairing this year at Stoke Park while Willis and Smith are feeling ready to hit the courts of SW19.
“It’s always fun to be back here playing with this guy (Marcelo Arevalo), the World No. 1. I had to step up my game today and so I’m glad we got the win,” Bopanna said.
“I’m playing with Rohan (Bopanna) next week. It doesn’t matter who we’re playing next week, we just want to go out and have fun at Wimbledon,” Arevalo added.
