Mariano Navone has clinched his maiden title on the ATP Challenger tour by lifting the trophy of the 2023 Enea Poznan Open held at the Park Tenisowy Olimpia. The 22-year-old Argentine defeated Tomas Barrios Vera of Chile, No. 5 seed at the €118,000 clay-court event 7-5, 6-3 in Saturday’s singles final.

Navone converted six of his 10 break-point opportunities and won 54 per cent of the total points played to seal victory in one hour and 49 minutes.

“I am very happy after this victory. I’m happy that I was able to win this tournament,” said Navone. “I’ve been in Poznan since last Friday, so I’ve already spent some time here, got to know and like the city, the center, the people. Also, I can say without a doubt that this is a perfect week for me.”

The World No. 240 pocketed €16,020 in prize money as well as 100 ATP Ranking points. Navone will next compete in the qualifying at Wimbledon.

“I’m already playing Wimbledon on Monday. It’s difficult to switch from clay to grass. Today I’m happy with the victory, and from tomorrow I start preparing on grass courts,” he said.
