Facundo Diaz Acosta is the champion of the €73,000 Oeiras Open 4, an ATP Challenger Tour 75 tournament organized by the Portuguese Tennis Federation with the support of the Municipality of Oeiras. The No. 7 seed from Argentina beat sixth-seeded Australian Aleksandar Vukic 6-4, 6-3 in Saturday’s singles final at the Centro Desportivo Nacional Do Jamor.

Diaz Acosta battled his way to the championship match through the top half of the draw with wins over US-Americans Emilio Nava and Ulises Blanch as well as No. 3 seed Radu Albot from Moldova and Nicolas Moreno de Alboran from the United States.

The 22-year-old Buenos Aires native broke Vukic’s serve four times and won 54 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in one hour and 44 minutes.

“I am very happy for the week I did. I played at a very good level both tennis-wise and mentally. I feel happy and I want to keep playing like this for many more weeks,” said Diaz Acosta, who arrived in Europe fresh from his title win in Savannah, United States.

“I liked the conditions very much. I didn’t have much time to get to know the city well, but I liked the little I saw. I leave Portugal very happy and if there are more tournaments I’ll be here for sure.”

By winning his third ATP Challenger career title, his second of the season, Diaz Acosta earned €9,880 in prize money as well as 75 ATP Ranking points.
