The ATP Challenger Tour has returned to Ostrava for the 20th straight year this week for the €73,000 Ostra Group Open 2023 by Moneta. Home favourite Zdenek Kolar clinched the title in the capital of the Moravian-Silesian Region, situated in the north-east of the Czech Republic.
The 26-year-old defeated Mate Valkusz from Hungary 6-3, 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final. Kolar battled his way to the championship match with wins over Miljan Zekic of Serbia, fellow countryman and No. 3 seed Vit Kopriva, Belgian Gauthier Onclin as well as Japanese alternate Shintaro Moshizuki. The World No. 206 capitalized on four of his 10 break-point chances in the championship match to secure victory in one hour and 12 minutes.
By winning his fourth ATP Challenger Tour career title, his first since Szczecin 2021, Kolar earned €9,880 in prize money as well as 75 ATP Ranking points.
